Five Things You Need to Know About Your Dentist

Your dentist is important for your family, because not only do you visit your dentist regularly, but as a doctor he is the only one who can give you relief from excruciating toothache. A good dentist, like the family physician, is a person you trust and who is familiar with your health and family history. You should feel comfortable with him, mainly because he is patient, caring and understands your needs. His skills and experience count and so does his staff. He should be affordable for you, and hence it is important to discuss all procedures and finances before venturing to try out some new procedure.

The most important thing that you need to know about your dentist is his skill. The comfort level of the patient is also important when the dentist is treating him. You can get this information only from patients, especially those he has been treating for a long period of time. That is why the experience of the dentist should be known to you and the age as well.

Find out whether the dentist is caring and understanding towards his patients. The comfort level with him should make you feel free to discuss any discomfort or pain that you are having. His good “chair-side manners” should be supported by the staff, whose behavior also plays an important role, especially if you have to make frequent visits to the dentist. The dental team should treat the patient the same way as the dentist does, and you should be able to build up a relationship with your dentist and his team.

The dentist should be a patient man and he should be ready to serve the patient by thinking about the well-being of the patient. With his knowledge and skills he should render the correct

What is it About Good Nutrition That Makes it Vital and Life-saving?

To answer this thoughtfully, first it could be said that good nutrition must have all the elements of a well balanced diet: Having all the adequate nutritional requirements for healthy growth and activity. The nutritional requirements being, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fibre, water, vitamins and minerals.

‘Fine, but there are certain things the school textbook doesn’t tell you:

No distinction is ever made between the qualities of nutrition.

General List to Distinguish Good and Bad Nutrition

Good nutrition has:

*Natural and wholesome foods: E.g. Beans, nuts, fruit and vegetables…

*Organic farm produce.

*Food with little or no heat treatment, where the molecular shape of the vitamins and enzymes are not altered and are therefore able to take part effectively in the body’s metabolic processes for normal functioning.

*Less starchy and grainy foods.

*Clean water, preferably from a mountain stream containing minerals.

*Fresh fruit juices. Not too much, so that insulin levels are not too high.

A Little About Contemporary Nutrition; Modern Day Food Intake and Their Benefits

Unlike previous times, foods these days are pretty much common among everyone. People used to cook at homes, and most of the times the same food would taste differently in different houses. But these days, the food comes from cans and packets, and most of the times, no matter which part of the country you may go, the food might taste exactly the same; for they all come from the same source.

Vegetarians

Some people, on the other hand, are limited of their nutrition intake due to foods they eat by reasons of health, morality, and many other factors. These people are simply known as vegetarian and they consume a contemporary nutrition intake indeed. They basically choose to forgo foods from animal sources such as meat, eggs, milk and so on.

This can be very good at one perspective, but not in another. From one angle, this is good because the contemporary nutrition does not have bad nutrients such as fat and is very low in calories, rich in fiber, carbohydrates and antioxidants. On the other hand, this food contains nothing much in protein and other important nutrients like calcium and magnesium, which is essential in good growth.

Genetically Modified Food

This is another evolution in contemporary nutrition these days, where natural foods such as vegetables and meat are not actually natural in reality. They are genetically produced or manufactured, also known as Genetically Modified or GM foods. This industrial farming and mass production of foods had indeed led to many controversies in the common dietary practice these days that people have shifted from the tradition food pyramid to their own individual ones.

This is one of the main reasons as to why people are slowly moving to vegetarian foods and

Know Something About Health

Health in general is the condition of person in all aspects; that’s his level of body functions including his metabolic efficiency. When World Health Organization [WHO] was established in 1948 it defined health as: “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” In 1986, the WHO stated in the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotions that health is: “a resource of everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.”

Health can be determined in four areas i.e. human biology, healthcare service, environment, and lifestyle. One can only improve and maintain his/her heath through health if all the above aspects are favorable. Levels of obesity and heart attacks are high in developed countries due to lack of recreational space and time to relax. Under developed countries have problems with clean water and diseases like malaria due to congestion as slums continue to materialize everywhere. Some issues should be taken into place like ensuring natural spaces are left intact, well utilization of land to make space for everybody and provision of clean water for sanitation.

Health can be achieved if one is focused on issues like cleanliness, maintaining strong social relationships with people and developing a positive attitude towards life. Socialization and positive attitude raise chemical levels in the brain that bring about ones personality and intelligence traits. Hygiene which is the art of keeping the body clean includes: bathing, washing hands before eating and brushing teeth to prevent infections and illness. Healthy life is reducing ones stress levels or stress management which have

Are Most Health Studies About Bad Health?

According to a study published in “Psychosomatic Medicine”, feeling lonely – even when surrounded by family and friends – is  linked to an  increase in the risk of heart disease. The study covered more than 3,000 people over 19 years. After having a physical and an extensive personal interview, all participants’ heart health was tracked. The women who were loneliest at the beginning of the study were 76% more likely to develop heart disease. Researchers hypothesize that loneliness affects only women in this way because women are more concerned about relationships. It seems men can have fulfilling relationships with remote controls.

According to a recent study, high and borderline-high cholesterol levels in midlife increase the risk of Alzheimer’s 30 years later. The cholesterol levels of 9,844 people ages 40-45 were determined between 1964 and 1973. When their medical records were reviewed between 1994 and 2007, the risk of Alzheimer’s was 57% higher for people who had cholesterol levels of 240 and above in midlife. Their risk of vascular dementia also increased. Even those who had  borderline-high cholesterol levels of 200-239 in midlife had an increased risk of 50%. Considering nearly 100 million Americans have high or borderline-high cholesterol levels, it’s time to level off.

According to a study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, severe sleep apnea increases the risk of early death by 46%. Severe sleep apnea causes sleepers’ airways to be blocked for 20-30 seconds, waking them about every 2 minutes. Of the 6,400 people in the 8-year study, 8.2% of the men had severe cases and 3% of the women. The NHLBI estimates that 12 million adult Americans have sleep apnea and recommends weight
