Mental Health and Safety

Health and Safety is obviously extremely important in every workplace. Not only do companies not want to see their staff or the public injured, but the implications of any accidents can be extremely costly.

However, almost all companies focus purely on the physical when looking into health and safety, and often forget to consider the implications of mental health and keeping people safe from less obvious problems that the workplace can cause.

Stress is a surprisingly large cause of work-related absence and can be extremely costly to any company as well as to the health of the individual. Around 14 million working days are lost to stress every year and with the pace of working life only getting faster, this figure will likely just continue to rise unless it is addressed properly.

Health and safety jobs are no longer just about ticking off some pedantic generic processes to ensure people dont cut themselves with a butter knife. Occupational health and safety jobs now look to cover the potential issues that may make the workplace an unstable place to work mentally not just physically, so for those who want to ensure that their working environment is not affecting their employees mentally, and therefore affecting their productivity, then looking into occupational health assessments may be the best way forward.

With more and more health and safety jobs being created to deal with the ever changing workplaces, there is no shortage of potential companies to help you deal with these issues. Occupational health and safety jobs are there to try and stop the rising problem in its tracks, prevention always being better than a cure, and in the process lower the surprising number of people who do not return to work after stress-related absence.

So if you want the most productive workforce, make sure they are mental safe and sound.

It’s Official Women to Receive Free Health Screenings and More

It’s Official Women to Receive Free Health Screenings and More

Starting on or after August 1, 2012 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced good news for women in the nation. New guidelines will require insurance plans to cover several women’s health services which include birth control, voluntary sterilization and more.

This is a big step for the health of American women. HSS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated that this decision is in part of the “Affordable Care Acts”. This new move will guarantee women to obtain the preventive health benefits they require.

Included in these benefits which come at no cost to women are; well visits, HIV screening and counseling, FDA approved contraceptive methods and counseling, domestic violence screening and counseling, gestational diabetes screening, HPV testing for women 30 years old and up, sexually transmitted infection counseling and breastfeeding supplies, support and counseling this does include breast pumps.

Just like any good deed done, there are always opposing forces. These forces for example include Family Research Council stating that this move threatens the conscience rights of numerous Americans. The Committee on Pro-Life Activities along with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops through their chairman Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, stating that” pregnancy is not a disease”. It is their feeling that this new decision coerces people to take part that could have religious or morale convictions that are against contraceptives.

For the reason the Obama Administration has included an amendment to the prevention regulation. This amendment will allow religious institutions that offer health insurance to their employees a choice of either allowing contraceptive services or to decline.

There are numerous supporters of this new plan who agree that this will aide women in the millions that now struggle for prescription birth control to be able to have contraceptives without that struggle. Supporters also note that allow for free contraceptives aides the government in saving money. A report from Guttmacher Institute that in the year 2006 two million publicly funded births occurred and 51% of that number was from unintended pregnancies which cost the government $11 billion.

This new healthcare reform has insurance companies covering in full the services which are considered critical for preventive care by HHS. An expanding list is being complied and among the list are services such as mammograms, pediatrics and vaccines. Sources:

Health Care Jobs Can Be Great

As a young person, it is never easy to narrow down the long list of possible careers to a few options that might be most suitable for them. There are so many options for both men and women these days that the process might be a little bit overwhelming. Many times kids end up studying and doing something that they are familiar with because of their parents or friends. Health care jobs are definitely some of the best jobs to be had today. Whether you are a young person looking for your first job out of college or whether you are much older and looking for a career change, it is important to be intentional about the job search process.

One of the best ways to get informed is to talk with people who are doing the jobs that might interest you. Getting first hand information will help immensely and give you a realistic picture of what the job will look like. If you are interested in health care jobs, talk to people in the health care profession in a variety of ways. Speak with nurses, doctors, massage therapists, receptionists, physical therapists or any other kind of health care job worker that interests you.

A great thing about pursuing health care jobs is that they are highly needed right now. Especially in urban areas, there seems to always be a demand for health care job workers. In today’s society, having the job security that many health care jobs can bring is valuable. People who choose to enter the health care field rarely have trouble finding or keeping jobs. This is an important thing – one of the most important things perhaps – to consider when choosing a career.

Another great thing about health care jobs is that you get to help people in very tangible and real ways. If you are a person that loves to care for and help people than there can be no better profession for you than health care jobs. What a great way to get paid to do something you love. Health care jobs allow you to gain skills that meet the real needs of people. So many professionals cannot go home at the end of a day knowing that they have done something that clearly benefits society. Health care jobs give you a clear sense of helping society in positive ways.

Consider seriously a career doing one of many health care jobs. You will be busy doing something you love and that our world really needs.

Health Care for Sore Muscles and Joints

Health Care for Sore Muscles and Joints

One business owner asked me recently, what he can do to lower his rising health care costs and I jokingly replied, “Make your employees run laps around your building.” The owner responded by saying, “How many?” That is just one example of the desperate measures small business owners are willing to take to get those health care costs in check.

With all the wild solutions suggested for this ongoing problem, one of the few acceptable answers seems to be exercise and wellness. Here are some simple ideas that you, a small business owner, can start to implement to help get those premiums in check.

A major theme throughout this text is that you can control many factors that influence your health. An outgrowth of this attitude is the self-care movement, which is the trend toward individuals taking increased responsibility for prevention or management of certain health conditions. Armed with correct information, you can manage many aspects of your health care that were once thought possible only with the help of a physician.

Our family members go to a modern-medicine doctor only if absolutely necessary and as a last resort. We learn about our problems and try to fix them ourselves first. This knowledge about how our bodies work can then be used in future situations. I think I know my body pretty well by now and I’m pretty sure I will keep fairly healthy in future years.

This is a common yet extremely effective advice. Boiled water is pure and consumption of the same also helps you to digest food in a right way. Avoid eating the street-side foods like deeply fried fritters, fruits slices and other such snacks. Have light and freshly cooked meals.

The hostile receptions members of Congress got at their initial town-hall meetings, from newspaper reporting and from the footage shown on national television, looked more like an orchestrated assault on everything resembling Change than it did the grassroots Democracy expressed at last years polling places. What happened?

We are each individually in charge of our own health. How can the doctor be at our side all day and night to counsel us to “Put that cigarette out!” or “Don’t eat that cheeseburger! Remember your high cholesterol!” By the time we are forced to go in to the clinic by some scary symptom, we are already in trouble. It is too late for health care — now it’s time for drugs and scalpels.

To often parents think of only the physical health of their children when it actually involves both their physical and mental health. The home environment should be conducive for the mental health of our kids as a child should not be subjected to physical abuse or a hostile environment because this contributes directly to their mental health. The child’s diet should also be sufficient.

Home Health Aide A Seniors Advocate During a Hospital Stay

Home Health Aide A Seniors Advocate During a Hospital Stay

A home health aide provides a wide variety of homecare services for the elderly. In addition to being an in-home caregiver, a home health aide can be a seniors advocate to look out for her best interests in the event of a hospital stay. Even when family members arent close by or are too busy to be available 24/7, you can count on a home health aide to ensure the best care possible at the hospital.

Its no secret that hospitals are overcrowded, nurses are overworked, and compassionate patient care is often overlooked. A home health aide takes the worry out of a hospital visit. More than anyone else, seniors need home health aide to be their advocate from the moment they enter the hospital until they are safely returned home.

Since a home health aide is aware of the seniors medical history, insurance, medications, personality, and daily needs, he or she has a unique understanding of the persons condition that most hospital caregivers will not know. This results in improved communication and a decrease in errors because the home health aide is at your elderly loved ones bedside throughout the duration of her hospital stay.

In addition, since home health aides already have a trusting relationship established with the senior and her loved ones, they can be proactive and take charge in the event of an emergency. They get the elderly family member into the hospital quickly, provide the right information rapidly, and get her back to the comfort of her home faster and with a better health outcome. Since the home health aide handles everything, family memberswhether on the other side of town or on the other side of the worldhave the confidence that their elderly loved one receives the best care possible at all times.

When your elderly loved one is in the hospital, a home health aide ensures:
Regular, reliable communication between medical providers, the patient, and the family
All treatment options are thoroughly discussed and all medical questions are asked and answered
Companionship to offer comfort and quality of care
Appropriate treatment of the senior by hospital staff
Reduced levels of stress for the senior in the hospital and the family at home

Proactive hospital discharge planning, including picking up medications and groceries, meal preparation, and home safety
Proper coordination of care for additional healthcare services when she arrives home

See how a home health aide can be the difference between a problematic hospital stay and one that is controlled and stress-free. Visit www.CambrianHomecare.com or call 877.422.2270 to learn more about home health aides and homecare services.

How to Get an International Health Certificate for Pet Travel

How to Get an International Health Certificate for Pet Travel

Traveling with your pet can be fun and rewarding for both of you. You won’t have the worry and guilt of leaving your beloved pet behind while you go on vacation and your pet won’t have to spend days or weeks missing you while you’re gone. For travel within the United States, bringing your pet is relatively simple, as long as you can find pet-friendly lodgings. If you opt for international travel, however, you’ll need to do some serious advance preparation for the trip. For starters, you’ll need to get an international certificate for pet travel.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

1)Get the international health certificate from your veterinarian or from the embassy of the country you’re planning to visit. Always request the international health certificate at least 6 months before you plan to take your trip. This will give you enough time to get all the vaccinations and paperwork in order.

2)Take your pet to a veterinarian who has been certified by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). International health certificates for pets are only accepted by foreign nations if they have been filled out by an APHIS veterinarian. To find an office in your area, visit the USDA website (see Resources below).

3)Have the veterinarian perform the specific tests and administer the specific vaccinations required by the country you will be visiting. The veterinarian will record the test results on the international health certificate.

4)Take your completed international health certificate to a USDA Veterinary Services office to be endorsed. USDA endorsement is a requirement on all international health certificates. A USDA Veterinary Services office in your area can be found on the USDA website.

5)Bring the international health certificate with you to the airport to present to airline personnel and customs officers on demand.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure your veterinarian signs the international certificate for pet travel before you leave on your trip. This essential part of the paperwork is frequently overlooked and not noticed until people and their pets have arrived at an international destination. Without the signature, the pet will not be allowed into most countries and could be subject to a quarantine of up to 6 months. Quarantines are stressful on pets, so take every measure to avoid it.

Make a copy of the signed and endorsed international health certificate for yourself and keep it in your luggage. Make another copy and leave it at home. If your certificate is lost in travel, you need to have back-ups.

There will be a fee for the USDA Veterinary Services endorsement. This fee varies by state.

Our health is the most valuable asset that we have. So, we must protect it as we would protect our other assets. If a person becomes ill or seriously injured, medical care is not a luxury. One cannot simply decide and cannot afford to be sick or injured and continue on. Medical treatment is a necessity, if one is seriously ill or badly injured. With the help of Health insurance an individual will have access to medical treatment.

Lack of health insurance coverage is one of the nations most pressing problems. While most elderly people have health insurance coverage through Medicare and non-elderly people receive health insurance coverage through employer-sponsored plans, many workers and their families remain uninsured because their employer does not offer coverage or they cannot afford the cost of coverage. Millions of people without health insurance face adverse health consequences because of delayed or foregone healthcare and extending coverage to the uninsured has become a national priority.

Health Coverage refers to a contract in which one pays a premium in return for healthcare services. This premium may be paid monthly, quarterly, or in whichever manner the consumer and the organization providing the insurance negotiate. Health insurance, like other types of insurance, is intended to protect a consumer from financial hardship.

There are numerous types of plans offering varying types of insurance coverage. Consumers now have authority of more choice than ever before in determining the type of healthcare they want for themselves. Individuals can seek necessary comprehensive, coverage for themselves. Consumers can choose to have as little or as much autonomy in managing their healthcare as they choose. By doing some research, consumers can find a plan which fit their specific needs and circumstances.

Every State Government has made a law for the employees so that they can get the coverage of health easily. Employees with health insurance coverage may be eligible to receive a tax credit due to the monthly health insurance premiums they pay. Hence, a large number of citizens are saving money through the medium of health coverage.
