Its Child Health Day Protecting our childrens health

Today is Child Health Day, a national observance created to highlight the importance of protecting our childrens health. The annual event also encourages parents to include proper nutrition and regular exercise into their childrens lives and how to minimize various health problems including diabetes, heart disease, obesity and asthma.

Originally celebrated in May, Child Health Day has been observed on the first Monday in October since 1960. United States President Calvin Coolidge first proclaimed National Child Health Day in 1928. President Barack Obama issued the following Presidential Proclamation in 2010:

The health and well being of a child is one of our most challenging, yet important, responsibilities, and we have an obligation to ensure that all our children can live, learn, and play in safe and healthy environments. On Child Health Day, we reaffirm the critical importance of the quality health care, nutritious foods, clean air and water, and safe communities our kids need to grow into strong and active adults.

Health organizations and professionals around the country participate in the event by attending various events and activities.
